Health, Safety and Environment Policy

Policy Aim

DGM Australia Pty Ltd is committed to the safe handling and transportation of dangerous goods whilst being environmentally sensitive. To achieve this, DGM is committed to the planned provision of adequate resources to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that all employees are safe from injury and risk to health while they are at work.

DGM recognises the importance of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) management and ranks it equally with all other financial and operational considerations. Consequently, DGM is committed to a planned approach to HSE management which is flexible, focuses on hazard management, aims at continuous improvement and complies with State and Federal Legislation.

So far as is reasonably practicable, DGM will provide:

  • a safe workplace and a safe and healthy working environment;
  • safe systems of work;
  • machinery, equipment and substances in a safe condition;
  • information, instruction, training and supervision necessary to ensure that each employee is safe from injury and risks to health;
  • regular discussions with employees on all issues that may affect their health and safety; and
  • effective injury and illness reporting, recording and investigation; and effective rehabilitation measures for employees who suffer work-related injuries and illness.

DGM acknowledges that a safe workplace does not just happen. Management and employees must make a concerted effort to continuously improve the level of safety and injury management as a team. In particular:

  • DGM must be committed to HSE and actively involved;
  • supervisors must clearly understand their responsibilities for HSE;
  • written polices and procedures need to be developed, where necessary;
  • issues which affect HSE must be discussed with those concerned; and
  • all staff must be provided with appropriate and adequate training, instructions and information to enable them to fulfil their responsibilities;

Active co-operation is required from our staff, contractors and visitors for us to achieve our HSE management goals. Consequently, we are committed to a consultative approach in HSE management where staff, contractors and visitors have a responsibility for HSE. To this end, specific roles and responsibilities have been assigned to State Managers, staff, visitors and contractors.
